How to pronounce my name:

My name is Terje. Like the IKEA chair. You can call me Ted if you want to.

It is pronounced almost like the dog Terrier but without the last R. Terrie. Terr-y-yeah.

I'll answer to anything though, so please feel free to butcher my name. I won't get offended, promise!

The short and sweet bio:

Terje Brevik is an improv teacher and performer from Oslo, Norway.

He is the founder of Tøyen Impro, an improv school for everyone, and the Short Notice Improv Festival, a week long international comedy festival complete with workshops, shows and a Big Day Out!

His ideas, style and preferences come from a broad and diverse range of sources. He considers himself very lucky and privileged to have studied with Keith Johnstone, at the Annoyance, iO Theater, Loose Moose, the Pack theater and many more (yet he learns the most from his students).

Terje holds two Bachelor's degrees, one in Drama and Theater Communication, and the other in Computer Engineering. He comes with 10+ years of experience teaching and performing internationally, with training

improv teacher, performer, producer and community catalyst

Terje could have put the following in his bio:

But he won't. He's too decent, handsome and modest.

He could also mention that he’s referred to as the Navy SEAL of psychological safety.

But he won't. He's too honorable, dapper and good at googling synonyms.

He will however treat you like a rock star. Because that's what you are!

My style of teaching

It's hard to describe one's own teaching style (without over-using the words "the bee's knees"), but my main focus is always to create a safe environment for the group by building trust in a fun and inclusive way. Consent and safety always comes first. Only then are we more open to explore, discover, fail and learn together. And have fun!

Maybe it's easier to describe what kind of teacher I'm not?

  • I'm not going to yell at anyone or call them names.

  • No is a complete sentence in my workshops. Always. We even practice saying it!

In my workshops I will:

  • Make improv more fun and less scary!

  • Offer tools and stuff that you can try if you want to, and hopefully discover what works best for you (and what doesn’t)

  • Not tolerate inappropriate behavior.

  • Insist that you take care of yourself and your partner.

  • Do my best to take good care of you, because you deserve to be there!

We all have our own unique improv journey. My job is to try to provide what you need at the point you're at in a way that makes sense to you.

I've been known to bring Norwegian chocolate when abroad.
